Weather Alert – U. S. Embassy Bridgetown, Barbados

Location: Eastern Caribbean – Tropical Storm Alert

Event: As of September 26, Tropical Storm Kirk is on a westward path towards the Caribbean. The National Hurricane Center forecasts that Kirk will reach the Lesser Antilles at tropical strom strength on the night of September 26 and into the early morning hours of September 27. Expect heavy rains and strong winds with possible flooding, landslides, power outages, and difficult travel conditions. Expect increased rainfall levels and winds throughout the country.

  • Dominica
  • Martinique
  • Guadeloupe

A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for…

  • St. Vincent and the Grenadines

A Tropical Storm Warning means that tropical storm conditions are expected somewhere within the warning area within 36 hours.

A Tropical Storm Watch means that tropical storm conditions are possible within the watch area, in this case within 36 hours.

Interests elsewhere in the central and northern Lesser Antilles  should monitor the progress of Kirk as additional warnings or watches could be issued later today.

Actions to Take:

  • Avoid travel to Eastern Caribbean until the storm has dissipated.
  • Monitor local media for updates.
  • Have travel documents up to date and easily accessible.
  • Visit the National Hurricane Center for updated storm tracking information.
