Weather Alert – U.S. Embassy, Barbados (Release Date: October 1, 2023)
Location: Northern Leeward Islands
Event: According to reports from the National Hurricane Center (NHC), Tropical Storm conditions are possible across portions of the northern Leeward Islands Monday and Monday night while Tropical Storm Philippe passes near or just northeast of the area, and a Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Antigua and Barbuda. Interests elsewhere in the northern Leeward Islands should continue to monitor this system as additional watches or warnings could be required later today or tonight.
Heavy rainfall from Philippe could produce isolated to scattered flash flooding, particularly across Antigua and Barbuda, through Tuesday.
Action to Take:
- Monitor local media and the National Hurricane Center website (www.nhc.noaa.gov) for updates and the latest forecast.
- Have travel documents up to date and easily accessible.
- Review local and regional emergency management organizations for information on emergency preparedness, including the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA)
- Seek secure shelter if weather conditions deteriorate.
