Event: Grenada under Tropical Storm Watch
Tropical Storm Elsa
The National Hurricane Center advises that Tropical Storm Elsa is headed towards the Eastern Caribbean. Winds are currently 45 mph and may strengthen as the storm proceeds. Grenada has been placed under a Tropical Storm Watch, and tropical storm conditions are possible for Grenada and its dependencies within the next 24 hours.
Elsa’s center is expected to pass north of Grenada on Friday. Grenada, Carriacou, and Petite Martinique can expect thunderstorms and showers accompanied by gusty winds Friday morning into Saturday. Rainfall amounts of 3 to 6 inches are possible, with up to 8 inches in the northern areas, including Carriacou, Petite Martinique, and areas of higher elevation. Everyone in Grenada and the surrounding islands are encouraged to remain vigilant and follow the directives issued by the government of Grenada.
Grenada’s emergency number is 911, and U.S. citizens are advised to keep this number on hand in case of emergency.
Grenada’s National Disaster Management Agency advises everyone to conduct a personal assessment of their dwelling place and secure outdoor items, charge cell phones and other important devices, and stock up on medications and essential supplies. Marine operators are advised to secure their vessels.
