USS Detroit Visits Port of Bridgetown
On Friday July 21, U.S. Ambassador to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, Linda S. Taglialatela welcomed the crew of the U.S. Naval Ship USS Detroit to Port Bridgetown. The Freedom-variant littoral combat ship USS Detroit, along with Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 28, detachment 11 currently supports counter-narcotics operations in the Caribbean and is involved in practical exercises and exchanges with partner nation maritime services. During a tour of the vessel, Ambassador Taglialatela thanked Cmdr. Kyle Hickman, commanding officer of the Detroit and said: “I am proud of your contribution to stability and maritime security in the region and of the collaboration with our Caribbean partners.” USS Detroit is manned by its crew of more than 100 sailors, including a U.S. Coast Guard law enforcement detachment; and an aviation detachment, who will operate an embarked MH-60 helicopter. The deployment of the USS Detroit to the region aims to demonstrate the United States’ continued commitment to regional cooperation and security.
