The following three programs are available to citizens of the United States who are interested in pursuing academic work in Barbados or the Eastern Caribbean.
Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program
The Fulbright U.S. Scholar program offers opportunities for American scholars, artists and professionals to conduct research, lecture, and/or consult with other scholars and institutions abroad. Every year the program sends more than 800 American scholars and professionals to approximately 130 countries, where they lecture and/or conduct research in a wide variety of academic and professional fields. Visit the Core Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program website for complete application and eligibility details. Interested faculty members may also wish to contact their institution’s Fulbright Campus Representative.
Barbadian and Eastern Caribbean colleges or universities who wish to host a scholar should contact Embassy Bridgetown via email.
Fulbright U.S. Student Program
The Fulbright U.S. Student Program Offers fellowships for U.S. graduating seniors, graduate students, young professionals and artists to complete one academic year in an individually designed study/research project or English Teaching Assistantships. Candidates must submit a Statement of Grant Purpose defining activities to take place during one academic year in a country outside the U.S. The program facilitates cultural exchange through direct interaction on an individual basis in the classroom, field, home, and in routine tasks, allowing the grantee to gain an appreciation of others’ viewpoints and beliefs, the way they do things, and the way they think.

Fulbright American Specialist
The Fulbright Specialist program sends U.S. faculty and professionals to serve as expert consultants on curriculum, faculty development, institutional planning, and related subjects for two to six weeks at non-US degree granting academic institutions. Institutions interested in hosting a Fulbright American Specialist must demonstrate a need for guidance in the specialist’s field. Qualified American specialists are matched to appropriate non-US institutions by the Council for International Exchange of Scholars. Find more information here.
