Demonstration Alert: Guadeloupe – U.S. Embassy Bridgetown, Barbados (November 20, 2021)

Location: Pointe-á-Pitre, Guadeloupe, French West Indies

Event: There are reports of demonstrations and roadblocks taking place in the city center of Pointe-á-Pitre and throughout Guadeloupe by a collective of trade unions and citizens’ organizations protesting health pass rules and COVID-19 vaccine mandates.  Local authorities have implemented a curfew between 6:00 pm and 5:00 am which will remain in place until November 23, 2021.

Actions to Take:

  • Avoid the areas of the demonstrations.
  • Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.
  • Monitor local media for updates.
  • Keep a low profile.
  • Notify friends and family of your safety.
